From the Pastor’s Desk 1/31/2025
Dear Friends,
It is with great excitement that I share some wonderful news with you. On Sunday evening at St. John’s in Bergenfield, our parishioner, Dan Farrales became an official candidate for the permanent diaconate for our Church! Dan’s dedication to God’s call has been unwavering, and his family stands beside him with immense pride as he responds to this sacred vocation. We are confident that Dan will bring his joy, deep faith, and compassionate spirit to this new role of service to all of us at St. Peter’s.
The permanent diaconate has a rich history in the Church, dating back to the early Christian community. From the time of the Apostles, deacons have been ordained to serve in a variety of ways, including proclaiming the Gospel, assisting with the sacraments, and reaching out to those in need. Deacons live their calling through both words and actions, serving as a bridge between the priests and the lay faithful. This sacramental vocation is rooted in humility and service, reflecting the very example of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve.
Upon ordination-hopefully in 3 years-Dan will assist here at St. Peter’s in various liturgical and pastoral duties. You will see him joining Deacon Paul in serving at the altar, proclaiming the Gospel, assisting with baptisms, and helping with the administration of the sacraments. Beyond his liturgical duties, Dan will also be involved in reaching out to those in need, visiting the sick, and supporting the work of evangelization within our parish. It was so heartening to experience his family’s pride and support on Sunday evening. I am confident that they too will share in the blessings that come from his ministry.
Let us keep Dan, his wife Maria and his whole family in our prayers as he continues his discernment and classes to become a deacon. May the Holy Spirit guide him and strengthen him as he responds to God’s call. I also ask for your support and encouragement as he embarks on this new chapter of his spiritual journey. Together, let us thank God for the gift of Dan’s vocation and for the blessings his service will bring to our entire parish family.
In Christ’s peace,
Fr. AJ
