Brother Patrick Sean Moffett, CFC will be speaking at the parish masses next weekend concerning the missionary activities of the Church, and in particular the missions of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers in the United States and Latin America.

Raised in Visitation Parish in the Bronx, NY, and later Visitation Parish in Paramus, NJ, he met the “Irish Christian Brother” at Bergen Catholic HS in Oradell. He and nine of his classmates in the first graduating class of 1959 responded to the call to Brotherhood.

Brother has served as teacher and administrator in secondary schools, professor of Psychology and Pastoral Counseling at Iona University, past president of the Boys and Girls Towns of Italy and is currently on the Leadership Team of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers in North America and the Latin American Mission Area. His home base is in Elizabeth, NJ.

The Congregation of Christian Brothers was founded in 1802 by Bl. Edmund Rice (1762-1844) in Waterford, Ireland to educate the poor and marginalized youth of his day. By the end of the twentieth century, the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers grew steadily and opened many primary and secondary schools, colleges and orphanages in many different countries.

In the footsteps of their Founder, they fulfill their mission to be a Christ Presence among God’s poor in a spirit of compassion and commitment through education.

Today, the Brothers still serve as teachers, mentors, social workers and community development professionals in some of the poorest regions of the world. The North American Brothers serve in Latin America; in Peru and Bolivia, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in Dominica, West Indies and in Brownsville, Texas.

The needs are so great and it is only through the financial generosity of people in North America that we can continue to bring the Good News of Jesus through a good Catholic education to those who are less fortunate. We ask you to support us, the Brothers, in our missionary efforts to serve the disadvantaged youth in our world.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
