Follow the Synod of Synodality

Throughout the month of October, the Universal Catholic Church will be meeting in Rome in one of the most anticipated events in modern church history, which some consider to be the most important gathering since Vatican II. This will begin the culmination of the Synod on Synodality — a multi-year, worldwide undertaking initiated by Pope Francis in October 2021 and concluding in 2024. In this synod, Catholics were asked to submit feedback to their local dioceses in response to the question:

What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our “journeying together”?

Hundreds of St. Peter’s parishioners met in small group Listening Sessions several times in 2021 and 2022 in response to this call to journey together in synodality through prayer and discernment and consider how our parish can proclaim the Gospel in the 21st century. Now, it’s time to see what that’s led to.

Session One of the Synod takes place throughout October over a series of meetings. Cardinal Tobin will be attending these upcoming meetings in Rome and he is asking that the people of the Archdiocese of Newark ‘journey” with him in prayer and to follow the progress of the Synod remotely.

Cardinal Tobin prepared a video message previewing the upcoming Synod on Synodality event.
