Get Involved / Serve the Church

Lectors

Lectors proclaim scripture readings and Prayer of the Faithful for the congregation at masses. They’re assigned to the mass they normally attend, and frequency of assignments will vary based on the overall availability of lectors for a given mass.

A lector must have:

  • A love of scripture

  • A voice that is pleasing to the ear and can project well

  • A willingness to carefully prepare prior to an assignment so that the words and intent of the readings are clear and understandable to the congregation

  • The ability to read slowly and meaningfully

  • The ability to arrive at mass 15 minutes early

  • The willingness to dress a little nicer for mass

The process of preparing for a reading along with the active participation of proclaiming it is a meaningful way to connect closer to the Word of God and serve the church.
